German schoolgirl Annika Irmler has licked her way into the Guinness Book of Records with her whopping seven centimetre tongue.

"My friends always said I had an incredibly long tongue - I could make lots of money with it one day," said Annika.

The twelve-year-old from Tangstedt, near Hamburg, can lick the ice cream from the bottom of a cornet - while her friends have to use their fingers.

"I'm just proud that now people everywhere can read about me and my tongue," she said.

"On my first day at school I had to stick my tongue out for everyone."

According to a report in the Chicago Sun-Times, Los Angeles Police Department detective Robert Lewis said a group of people -- including Manning -- attacked a man in a Denny's after teasing him for working on a laptop computer.

"The group began by making comments that the victim looked like a geek or a nerd," Lewis said, according to the Sun-Times.

The newspaper quoted Lewis saying the victim complained to a Denny's manager. He was then punched in the face, then punched and kicked by multiple attackers until losing consciousness.

Manning was released after posting $30,000 bail.

"I was pretty down this morning because of the situation," Manning said."But when I found out I was a Chicago Bear, it kind of brought a little light to the day. ... I can't let something like this let me have a bad start to my football career in Chicago."

in the Chronicle op-eds, there is a guy writing about the Duke rape case. columnists are less quick to condemn the players for rape now, so this guy goes after the culture of drinking and strippers. he asks why it's considered normal for athletes to hire strippers for a party, and why the girl thought it was acceptable to be a stripper to support herself, knowing she was putting herself in an unsafe situation. he also is upset that the Duke players hired black strippers, when there was only one black player on the team.

Crime wave

Good thing I had a conference call and stayed home last Thursday. I wonder why they didn't go to that communist coffee shop. I bet you could haul off some much fancier laptops there and you probably wouldn't have to stab those hippies to take their shit. It's funny, I always left my laptop sitting out when I went to the bathroom on the theory that someone could just as easily grab it off the table whether I was sitting there or not.

Also I heard a semi-automatic going off again over on 25th and Mission Saturday night. I think I might stay away from the Phone Booth until this dies down.

I talked to some cops the other day and they said they would be patroling our neighborhood more. They did show up minutes after the shooting. I wonder what set all this off.

Last Saturday just as I was going to bed I heard five or six gunshots. Turns out someone was shot and killed over on 25th and Capp st.

Then Thursday some guy ran over another guy at Randall and Mission, apparently in some kind of retaliation.

Yesterday, at the corner of 24th and Capp I saw some guy face down in the street with a bunch of other guys punching him in the head. I would call the cops but last time I just waited on hold for ten minutes before giving up.

Jesus christ. Am I living in the middle of a gang war?
